Isn’t it great when you travel out of Port Moresby and you are pleasantly surprised to find an internet cafe of some sort?? But it’s even better when you find one that’s air conditioned, has flat screens and a decent dial up connection at 32.2 KB/sec. Seriously this connection is downloading pages faster than in POM (but that could be because it’s a Saturday here in Wewak).

So basically I’m in Wewak at a new and very stylish and very very stylish hotel (did I mention it was stylish) called ‘in Wewak’. I guess the hotels’ name is a play on words. The ISP they use here is Global Internet and I must say I am impressed. I’ve tried internet cafe’s in Alotau, Madang and Wewak before and this is the first time I can say that the service is comparable with that in Port Moresby (not that POM’s service is that great either). The worst location was Alotau where the internet just didn’t work at all.

Other technology considerations in this hotel are wall mounted 17″ flat screens for all the rooms, but unfortunately they don’t have a Hitron like service here so you only get one channel, which is the free to air Australia Network.

They’ve also got a wall mounted 42″ Acer flat screen in their coffee shop which is nice. But instead of running a one channel program from Australia on their screens, it would be nice if they ran images of Sepik tourist destinations and also provided text information of what is going on around the East Sepik in terms of interests for tourists. This would go a long way in enhancing their services here by informing guests about things that they can do, while ‘in Wewak’.

Although the hotel is a bit expensive, for once though I feel as if you are actually getting value for money . Read the ‘in Wewak’ Brochure (364 KB). You can also see some more pics of Wewak here.
