A quick search on YouTube with the terms “Papua New Guinea” brings up around 2,550 videos, (we could perhaps exclude the Future Sound of London’s ‘Papua New Guinea‘ track from that list).
2,550 is not a whole lot when you think of it against a population of 6 million, but it’s certainly a promising indication of PNG’s video presence on the web.
With that in mind we’ve had a go at making and appearing in some video’s. My ‘Hands Up, Buai or your life‘ short film (co-produced and Directed by Brendan Walsh) and my dancing away in a rock music video. What I’ve been keen on learning about is who, how and where these 2,550 YouTube video’s get seen in order to perhaps learn abit more about the effectiveness of video on the net for PNG and the South Pacific.
In terms of online distribution of video, there are obviously other platforms out there besides YouTube, but it seems to be the most popular at the moment for PNG content. Besides learning about the benefits of video on the net, let us know also if you are a PNG film maker. I know that there are a whole lot out there, so would be interesting to see if we can all get together at some stage to try further the cause for locally produced video content.

Thx 4 this vid, its a reality of life in PNG, we migrated overseas but still send money over to support our families back in PNG. Just a suggestion may be do a vid on customs eg bride price & sex education, specially on budgeting children, esp with current living conditions, having fewer kids is managable…
