Reclaiming Our Voice

By Emmanuel Narokobi

I was recently listening to a ‘Radio Australia, Pacific Break‘ interview between Namila Benson and a Solomon Islands band that had entered into the Pacific Break music competition. The band called ‘Traditional Roots’,  played a sample of their music in their interview with Namila, you can listen to it here.

I noticed in ‘Traditional Roots’ interview that their music track had a sample of a voice section from a Deep Forest self titled track. So not sure whether this is some sort of pay back for ‘Sweet Lullaby‘ or  just a case of innocent remixing of the remix?

Will ‘Traditional Roots’ need to get clearance for that sample? Will they need to pay Deep Forest anything?
