For the first time in many years a 747 lands at Port Moresby’s Jackson’s International Airport.
Digicel, PNG’s Bigger, Better Network, will become even bigger and better with the arrival of a Boeing 747 jumbo full of network equipment at Jackson’s International Airport today.
Executives from Digicel were at the airport to watch DHL staff and airport officers unload tonnes of equipment from the specially configured DHL jet.
“The equipment on the aircraft comprises all the necessary components needed to build new tower sites all over the country,” John Mangos, GM of Digicel PNG said.
“There are microwave antennas,GSM antennas, Radio Base Stations, fuel tanks, gensets and battery back-up systems. This equipment will be used to further expand Digicel’s network to areas of PNG where the people have never had access to mobile communications. We’ve already seen how the arrival of Digicel to PNG two years ago totally changed the telecoms market by giving people vastly better services at reasonable prices. Now more people all over PNG will be able to say “all I need is my Digicel.” he said.
The equipment will be installed during the next two months at over 100 sites in Highlands, NGI and Momase provinces. As new areas come on-line Digicel will inform customers with regular advertisements and SMS broadcasts.
