Many in Port Moresby will be familiar with the Luk Save Art Show held annually at the Port Moresby Yacht Club for the last 8 years. The show made great progress last year in taking their body of works to New Zealand and I hear the Liklik Luk Save exhibition will be on again in Auckland this year.
One of the familiar complaints I have received over the years is why do they do it in a place like the Port Moresby Yacht Club where the general public has no access. I think the first and principal reason for hosting there was because it was the best way we could bring the artists work to a market that could buy the art work. I know some will go on about this being an excuse but I’m proud to announce that Amanda Adams of Art Stret who founded and curates the show has finally taken another leap forward to setting up an art gallery in Waigani which will be open all year round just for art exhibitions.
The Art Stret Gallery is located at the Steamships Hardware Compound and upstairs within the HiPowa Building. Its a little tricky the first time and I almost felt like I was in one of those movies where you walk through a busy kitchen to a secret door at the back to a night club, because I quite literally had to walk into the HiPower Generator shop, through their workshop and then upstairs to this neat little comfortable gallery complete with a coffee maker, a comfy couch, polished wooden floors and art work all displayed on the walls with halogen lights bathing them.
So right now the gallery has on display the ‘Opening Group Show’ featuring:
