An iPad alternative for PNG

With the iPad2 just being released around the world, Digicel has come up with an alternative for us in PNG. See details below but just for myself, I’m curious, I wonder if we could turn the tablet into a broadcast medium on its own so we dont have to go through EMTV or Kundu2? Imagine watching Digicel Urban Bounce, Digicel Stars and now the Digicel Rugby League Cup on the V9 Light Tablet?

V9 Light Tablet perfect for business and pleasure in PNG

Papua New Guineans can now experience the benefits of smartpad tablet PCs, which are taking the world by storm, with the introduction by Digicel of the new ZTE V9 Light Tablet.

The ZTE V9 Light is one of most recent alternatives to an IPAD type device, but offers a lighter more portable option and a better range of entertainment and business applications for the more affordable price of K999.

The V9 Light has a seven inch touchscreen, a weight of only 403g, and a thickness of only 1.3cm making it the perfect portable option and can even be used as a mobile phone.  Unlike the IPAD, the V9 runs a Google Android platform offering better business applications and the ability to be turned into a full entertainment device with the large touchscreen and G-Sensor supporting a broad range of multimedia and games.   Other features that make the V9 Light the preferred option for business in PNG include that it allows editing of Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, runs Flash and will be compatible with future 3G services.

The V9 is exclusively available in PNG through Digicel stores and corporate sales team who have been trained to demonstrate its many attractive features.

Announcing the introduction of the ZTE V9 to PNG Digicel CEO John Mangos said; “Since our launch Digicel has always set the standards for communications in PNG and the introduction of the impressive V9 Light tablet is another example, offering our customers all the benefits of a lightweight, internet friendly tablet PC at a great value price. Members of the Digicel team are already using these devices across the regions and I have no doubt they will become invaluable tools for business throughout the country. Drop into one of our stores to experience the difference.”

India has a reputation for creating ultra-cheap technologies, a trend sparked last year by the Tata Nano, the world’s cheapest car at Rs100,000 (around K7,000).

  2. Hi! Im tj from philippines working as an engineer of digicel tower.just want to share and might help. LG OPTIMUS BLACK is in digicel stores too, i saw one in vision city. Here is the specs. 5mp rear camera with flash, 1.3 front camera for video calls for skype, facebook, yahoo messenger (which i always use even here in kiunga where only gprs/edge is available but very reliable) 4inch multi touch screen scratch proof nova display with 16million colors,700nits of brightness (iphone4 500nits) 1ghz processor 512mb ram, 512mb rom micro sd up to 32gb.wifi,3g,edge,gprs, gps, bluetooth.supports all video and audio formats, office file- word, excel, power poit, pdf. Operating system is 2.2 froyo and upgradable to 2.3 gingerbread. Digicel priced it at k1,299 which is close to the price in philippines P20,000 (1,100kina) and for zte v9 k999 which is P12,000 in philippines (650 kina) and for quality, LG (korea)is known word wide for 30yrs in electronics. While zte (china) is a new comer.

  3. I wonder if PNGean’s are actually buying them and using them?
    If so, for what purposes??
Or are people just trying to get one so they can look cool with it.

Considered having an Ipad than realise that the internal capacity is so small. You can’t store much music or video’s on it. You can browse the web and facebook…. but that may be all.

Otherwise, my laptop and phone can do more that an Ipad can do.
