Digicel PNG CEO-John Mangos:
“Contrary to what bemobile has stated, Digicel’s off-net, off peak rates are already 79t. In addition, NICTA released on the 17 November a public enquiry into off-net pricing which is available on its website and to which Digicel, Telikom and bemobile have already responded and has already been open to the public. It would seem that bemobile is unaware of the facts around the pricing and the consultation which they are currently taking part in. Digicel continues to participate into this ongoing enquiry with NICTA. It should also be noted that bemobile charges K2.00 per Megabyte for data which is up to ten times the industry average in PNG.”
“It should also be pointed out that bemobile has received considerable concessions from NICTA with regard to network rollout which represents a massive reduction on their commitment to invest in PNG. Digicel has already completed the most stringent rollout obligations as attached to its license from NICTA and continues to invest in new areas for voice, SMS and data. Real value and commitment is bringing communications to areas which have no communications and Digicel continues to focus on this.
Digicel also urged the media to balance their story out by getting NICTA’s feedback regarding bemobile’s comments.
