In an effort to add more value to its recently introduced mobile service Citifon, Telikom PNG has joined hands with BSP paving way for its customers to do banking through the bank’s SMS Banking service.
For the very first time, Telikom’s Citifon (mobile service operating on Telikom’s 3G network), is using its wireless network to provide a value-added service for its customers. This is a service that will benefit Papua New Guineans by delivering convenience banking nationwide.
With BSP SMS Banking, standing in long queues is now a thing of the past as Telikom customers that have BSP bank accounts can now do banking via their mobile phones anytime, anywhere.
Telikom PNG Chief Executive Officer Peter Loko during the inauguration of this service said; “As a nationally-owned company, we aim to transform the lives of people by adding value through advanced innovative communication solutions.”
“The BSP SMS banking service through our Citifon mobile service will allow more people to enjoy convenient banking anytime and anywhere. We are committed to bringing the world closer to everyone in PNG at an affordable cost.”
BSP Chief Executive Officer Ian B Clyne who also officiated at the launch said BSP is pleased that Telikom has come on board its SMS Banking service and such developments underline BSP’s commitment to being the leader in electronic banking services in PNG and the Pacific.
“We’re committed to making banking a convenient and easy part of life, because we understand there’s an increasing need to save time and money.”
He said BSP is very proud to be the first bank in the South Pacific to introduce the idea of mobile money in the form of SMS Banking because it knows that it is convenient and easier to do banking transactions using a mobile phone rather than going into a branch.
Mr. Clyne reiterated BSP’s commitment to improving product offers, service levels and access to banking services for customers by introducing new services and technology.
“Our commitment to improvement translates into giving people more freedom and contributes to a better life. We’ve been working hard to provide access to money – wherever our customers are. And we will not rest on our laurels but continue to strive for the best.”
Through BSP SMS Banking, Telikom customers who use the recently launched Citifon mobile phones and who have BSP accounts can check account balances, transfer money to another account and check the three last transactions. For more information customers can call Telikom’s new 24 hour Customer Care hotline on 345 6789 or BSP call centre on 1801212.
Telikom’s newly launched Citifon is now available in Port Moresby and Lae. Customers can use Citfon handsets in the 38 centres nationwide via Telikom’s CDMA coverage. Top-up of CitiFons can now be done using both the Rait and Telikad scratch cards as well.
